Post Ironman Louisville 2010

Getting to the race meant a lot to me.

Getting to the race meant a dramatic shift with direction in my life. Since coming back, I've felt a great sense of renewal and joy - that my life is a product of my will that I can craft with time and purpose.

Within 4 hours after finishing, I was up and out of bed, breaking down my bike and trying to make it to my 7 am flight back west. I asked the cabbie where we can go have some breakfast. His response was White Castle among the other restaurants.

Because I'm a West Coast native and have never had it before, I had him drive us through White Castle. I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches and a burger, and he ordered a jalapeno burger. On our way to the airport, we discussed cost of living differences between Louisville and Southern California. All of this occurred while my bike was dangling out of his trunk of the crown vic. Oh well.

Suffice it to say, I was still a bit delirious, and only wanted to get home so I can get some rest.

So, after having a week plus to veg out, it also meant carrying around an empty feeling, asking myself, "what's next?" For the past year, I've looked forward to finishing my first Ironman so much that it feels odd no longer doing so. In some ways, it's fair enough to perhaps even classify it as some form of depression. I became aware that this was happening, so I made it a point to do other things to occupy my time.

I've decided to focus more on my career and to pick up something new as a hobby - perhaps something that could include more of the significant other. I've also considered and started eyeballing another Ironman race.

Perhaps Arizona 2011?

  2. Hi Ingrid. I'll be at the race this year, and I'll be sure to train harder this time around for the distance. Are you racing as well there this year?
